A Play by John Mighton
Directed by Kevin Purcell
I went to Canada's Stratford Festival 2 years ago to see a friend act in a new play. I was both moved and excited by what I saw. I met my friend afterward to discuss the experience. I was curious about the play’s title; here is what she told me: "The title of the play: "The Little Years", was inspired by a quotation of the Roman Emperor and philosopher Marcus Aurelius, in the 2nd century AD: "....man lives only in the present, in this fleeting instant; all the rest of his life is either past and gone, or not yet revealed. This mortal life is a little thing, lived in a little corner of the earth." Since then I have also realized the play, for me, is really about the surprising and unexpected ways we influence each other and how sometimes what you think is going to be incredibly significant in a moment becomes less so and something that you thought was insignificant materializes into being one of the most powerful moments in your life.
