Presented by Williamsville State Bank & Trust and produced by Over The Moon Productions and Hoogland Center for the Arts, Paul Presney and Julie Ratz direct Parade. Parade is the story of relationships and focuses on the marriage of Leo and Lucille Frank. The musical is set against the background of the famous 1913 trial of Leo Frank, who is accused of murdering a 13 year old employee, Mary Phagan. Frank, a shy Jewish factory manager, becomes the center of the investigation when the political machine demands a quick resolution to the case. His Yankee upbringing is resented in the south and the trial is sensationalized by the media, arousing anti-Semitic tensions in Atlanta and the state of Georgia. Frank's wife, Lucille, convinces Georgia Governor Jack Slaton to open an inquiry into the trial due to inconsistencies in the evidence, but others with eyes on controlling Georgia's political future see upholding the Frank conviction as their key to power. Leo, who had considered his wife incapable of assisting in his defense, begins to appreciate that Lucille is his greatest advocate. Together, can they convince the governor to commute Leo's sentence? A commutation will be the end of Slaton's political power.

Parade is a rare example of compelling modern American musical theater, with the emphasis on story and characters. The show won Tony Awards for best score and best book in 1999 and is currently in revival on the west coast. Don't miss this regional premiere!

returns to Vachel Lindsay Home
 during March - July
16 more shows will be offered due to public demand
following highly successful First Night performances

Free performances of the compelling 1892 drama "The Yellow Wallpaper" will return to the Vachel Lindsay Home State Historic Site during March,  May, June and July due to public demand following a highly successful three-performance stint at the home during the First Night Springfield celebration.

"We were thrilled with the public response to the First Night performances at the Lindsay Home, and we've had numerous people asking when we'd bring the show back," said Vachel Lindsay Home Site Manager Jennie Battles.  "I'm pleased that our extended partnership with Over the Moon Productions will allow us to offer a total of 16 more performances."

"The Yellow Wallpaper" will be performed at the Vachel Lindsay Home March 5 and 6, May 7 and 8, June 4 and 5, and July 2 and 3.  Performance times are 6 and 8 p.m., and since seating is limited, reservations must be made by calling (217) 524-0901.  Reservations will be accepted on voice mail.

"The Yellow Wallpaper" by author Charlotte Perkins Gilman is regarded as an important early work of American feminist literature, illustrating attitudes in the 19th century toward women's physical and mental health.  The story is told through the secret journal entries of a narrator whose physician husband has confined her to the upstairs bedroom of a house he has rented for the summer.  She is confined to a room with bars on the windows, a gate across the stairs and yellow wallpaper for what the husband calls a "temporary nervous depression - a slight hysterical tendency," a diagnosis common to women of that period.  To keep the setting authentic, the performance will take place upstairs at the Vachel Lindsay Home.  The performance is not suitable for small children.

"The Yellow Wallpaper," directed by Springfield's Kevin Purcell, stars Aasne Vigesaa who has most recently appeared in Over the Moon's "Shakespeare Shorts" at Lincoln's New Salem and several recent productions at the Hoogland Center for the Arts.
